Reading is our most important cultural tool – and the key to lifelong learning. Literacy and access to reading can never be taken for granted and should be made a priority, particularly in parts of the world where access is not yet fully established, says Mr Heinz K. Becker, Member of the European Parliament.

Reading enriches linguistic skills and vocabulary, cultivates cognitive reasoning, promotes imagination and new ideas, fosters independence and creates confidence. In short: Reading transforms lives, added Mr Becker.
